RESEARCH

Jens-Christian Holm has for a number of years been working the childhood obesity treatment. Jens-Christian Holm defended his PhD thesis at University of Copenhagen, which regarded the extent of which the fat mass were regulated and influenced by the leptin system in 120 children during weight loss and the following weight regain, for a study period of more than 3 years. Subsequently, Jens-Christian Holm has taken the initiative to establish and has been leading The Children’s Obesity Clinic, Department of Pediatrics, University Hospital Holbæk which so far has been treating more than 2100 obese children and adolescents.

Concurrently, Jens-Christian Holm has taken the initiative to establish and has been leading The Danish Childhood Obesity Biobank which is a type of superstructure that has developed and initiated scientific project for 21 PhD.- and medical students.

The Danish Childhood Obesity Biobank

The inclusion of children is consecutive and seeks to include at least 2500 obese children and adolescents. Furthermore, 2585 controls in the age between 6-18 years have been included at different schools all across Zealand. The activities within The Danish Childhood Obesity Biobank are expected to contribute with conclusive contemplations in regards to the causality of childhood obesity as well as factors associated to risk profiling and treatment of childhood obesity. Furthermore, The Childhood Obesity Biobank is a part of the consortia BioChild and TARGET which has been established in collaboration with The Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Basic Metabolic Research (NNFC) and international collaborators and has been funded by The Innovation Fund Denmark.
